PRAYER OPPORTUNITIES

Do you ever long for a place to talk quietly with God without interruptions?

As part of our mission to provide prayer opportunities at Advent, the Friends of Daniel sponsor alternative events: 24 hour Prayer Vigil and the Prayer Path.

This is a time for anyone to come and give an offering of time to God.  Although it is true we can pray anywhere, our world is a very distracting one and an appointed time in a still atmosphere is often what our soul seeks and what God desires from us.   Making "an appointment with God," and honoring it, is just another of many ways to show devotion to Him, and gives us a time of peace to count on as well.  Come to pray for our church and its mission, to lift up your voice in praise and thanksgiving, to converse with God about what's on your heart, and, of course, to be still and listen for God's words just for you.

24 hour Prayer Vigil

10 AM (Friday, November 30, 2007)
10 AM (Saturday, December 1, 2007)

Use this time to center yourself and enjoy some quiet time with God before the rush of Christmas begins!!

Take-home prayers to help you enrich your personal prayer life will be made available in the bulletins and as hand-outs on the “Prayer Opportunities” table.  Feel free to take them home!

The Prayer Chain will address the immediate concerns of people who wish their individual prayer to go through a team of callers within a short period of time.  This is accomplished by individuals calling Carol or the church office (257-5565) with their specific request.  The request then goes through a network of callers who offer prayers on their behalf.

The Prayer Board is located outside the church office.  Prayer concerns may be posted during the week for those who wish to be lifted up in prayer during the worship service.

Lord - Hear Our Prayers!!!

HOW “FRIENDS OF DANIEL” BEGAN

A request was made in the bulletin/newsletter for people interested in providing spiritual and prayer opportunities at Advent.   Those who responded have met as the “Friends of Daniel” and are committed to our church family by the Mission Statement:   To provide opportunities at Advent to strengthen and enrich each individual’s personal relationship with our Lord Jesus through prayer as we grow together as the body of Christ.

The name, “Friends of Daniel,” was chosen because the prophet Daniel made prayer and relationship to God his priority even in the face of death.

“Then they said to the king, “Daniel, who is one of the exiles from Judah, pays no attention to you, O king, or to the decree you put in writing.    He still prays three times a day”.....”Daniel, since the first day you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard.”(Dan. 6:13, 10:12)

Lutheran Marriage Encounter

“Marriage Encounter was developed specifically to equip couples with communication skills necessary to grow through the barriers that arise in their relationships, providing them with tools for the rest of their lives.  It is a positive ministry for couples who cherish their relationship, who desire to maintain a high standard for their marriage, and who are willing to seek perfection in their “walk” with each other and with God.   Marriage Encounter is psychologically sound and compatible with the doctrine, discipline and worship of the Lutheran Church.”

Via de Cristo

“Via de Cristo is a 3-day ‘school’ which takes a New Testament look at Christianity as a lifestyle.  It is a combined effort of laity and clergy working together to bring renewal to the church.  The purpose of Via de Cristo is to teach, inspire, challenge and equip local church members for Christian action in their homes, churches, and communities.  Via de Cristo proposes no new type of spirituality – only a simple method through which one’s grace-filled life may be lived and shared with others.”
