Pastor's Sabbatical/Spiritual Renewal Summit
June 23, 2007

On Saturday, June 23, our congregation met with Pastor Kovitch to discuss his sabbatical and to share hopes, ideas and challenges for achieving a renewed focus on worship, prayer and scripture. During the meeting, we:

    ** explored what spiritual renewal might look like at Advent;
    ** defined what Pastor will be doing while on sabbatical and what we might do
    ** talked about what happens when Pastor returns
With regard to spiritual renewal, we talked about aspects about Advent that draw us closer to God.   The responses from the group included:

Sense of family/belonging, prayer and fellowship, inspirational sermons, people of the congregation, "Advent" is our home, study of the bible, our rich tradition of pastors, youth of Advent, music, focus on worship and scripture, eucharist, and Christ centeredness

A common theme was the importance of family, a sense of belonging, and relationships.   We are drawn closer to Christ through our faith in God and by "being there" for each other.  Spiritual renewal is deeply personal and requires an emphasis on building and sustaining meaningful relationships.   People come to Advent because they want Christ at the center of their lives and want to be connected with others through Christ.

What might spiritual renewal look like at Advent
if it were truly accomplished?
