Stewardship Moment

March 2011

In the interest of moving Advent Lutheran Church in the direction of a "year-around" approach to stewardship, this is the first installment in a series of monthly vignettes intended to aid in understanding what stewardship really means to us as Christians.   The answers may surprise some of you.

Traditionally, when people hear the word "stewardship" they think of the annual Fall pledge campaign.   That is only part of the story.    Actually the term "stewardship" implies "managing or caring for something."   In a Christian sense, it’s a total way of living which means managing God’s affairs on Earth.   God has made each of us stewards through our baptism in Christ.   He has given each of us talents and abilities that are unique and we should use them to serve Him.   Everything that we have become or possess has been allowed to happen or given to us by God.   He has given us our time, health, relationships, talents, property, Holy Scripture, and the Earth.   The important thing is not how much we have accumulated or how successful we are, but, what we do with these gifts that God has given us.

In Christ,

Your Stewardship Team
