Celebrate Our Diversity all to the Glory of Christ

Seven Faith Practices: Pray, Study, Worship, Invite, Encourage, Serve, Give

Saturday Evening Worship (6:00 PM)
Word and Sacrament will be part of this service just like at the three morning choices.  You will hear the same lessons and receive Holy Communion.   The atmosphere and style of music will be different from the other three services.   Your experience at this service will be more meditative and peaceful.   The Order of Worship will be a combination of the Evening Prayer (Vespers) Service in the new hymnal, Holy Communion liturgy and Taize' music.   Most of the combined liturgy will be sung.

What is Taize'?
Taize' Community is an ecumenical Christian community based in Taize, Burgundy, France.   In this monastic community, the brothers seek to awaken spirituality and promote Christian unity and peace.  A Taize worship service combines sung prayer, silence and light and uses these as the means of entering into the mystery of God's presence.  According to the introduction in the book of Taize' Songs for Prayer, "Short songs, repeated again and again, give it (singing) a meditative character.   Using just a few words, they express a basic reality of faith, quickly grasped by the mind.   As the words are sung over many times, this reality gradually penetrates the whole being."

What is Vespers?
Vespers is an evening prayer service and if you have attended a Holden Evening Prayer service, you have already been to a Vespers service.  You will notice that the words in the new hymnal are the same words as in the Holden Evening Prayer.   Vespers isn't new though.  It has a long history stretching back to early Christianity.   Vespers refers to prayers generally said in the evening and following a prescribed set of psalms and order of worship, but without the Eucharist.   (We have brought Communion into this service so that our Saturday night worship will meet the needs of Advent's congregation.)   Vespers was part of a larger ritual of daily prayer called the "Divine Office" or "Liturgy of the Hours" that was part of monastic life from the 6th century and onward.  It has roots in both the Old and New Testament.   In the early church, Christians devoted themselves to prayer at fixed times of the day.  Traditionally, Vespers took place between 4 and 6 PM or at sunset.   The Vespers of the 6th century grew out of an earlier office called "Lucernalis."   This was a service of light in which many candles were lit both for illumination and for symbolic reasons.   Vespers was suppoused to be "solemn" in the sense of awe-inspiring and deeply earnest.

Sunday Morning Informal Liturgical/ Family (Worship 9:00 AM)
Guided by our traditional worship, this service has an informal feel with a children's church time and an encouragement toward more family involvement of all ages.  A service that has the freedom of a child to celebrate tradition, at the same time letting our children inspire variety.

Sunday Morning Contemporary (Worship 11:30 AM)
A worship led by our Praise Team (Crosswalk) with music inspired by many contemporary artists.  This worship celebrates the Word of God and Holy Communion in a lively and energetic atmosphere with the goal of celebrating what's new in contemporary worship today.

Holy Communion is celebrated at all worship opportunities.
Come and worship your Lord and bring a friend!!!
